Xavi: FC Barcelona Can ‘Win All The Titles We Have Left’ After Sevilla Win

FC Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has insisted that his team can win all the titles they have left to fight for after they demolished Sevilla 3-0 at Camp Nou on Sunday evening.

The win put Barca eight points clear of bitter rivals Real Madrid at the top of La Liga, and the Blaugrana are simultaneously through to the Copa del Rey semi-finals against Los Blancos while also set to face Manchester United in a Europa League playoff in under a fornight.

Speaking post-match, Xavi hailed his players and said that both the performance and the points difference puts Barca in a “moment of great confidence”.

“We have gone many unbeaten games and it was important to win comfortably. In the last few games they had played us with a low block it had been difficult for us. This time we created many chances. Things are turning out well, because the work of the players is extraordinary,” he added.

Calling the Sevilla tie a “key game”, Xavi noted that his men “left Real Madrid eight points behind and although it’s still early, it is an important distance.

“We always think about where we come from and now we are in a privileged situation. We like to be leaders, to take this advantage and [have] the good feelings that the team is giving. We have had two very good games that give us a lot of confidence,” he explained, also alluding to Wednesday’s 3-1 triumph away at Sevilla’s bitter rivals Real Betis.

This aside, Xavi does not see Barca as favorites but instead as a ‘candidate’ to claim their first La Liga title since 2019.

“The favorite continues to be Real Madrid, which is the current champion of the League and the Champions League,” Xavi said, though he did claim that his squad has “the capacity to win all the titles that we have left” to compete for.

While Xavi noted that “euphoria” is fine with regards to celebrating Barca’s success thus far in 2022/2023, the legendary midfielder urged calm and for nobody to get carried away as there is still plenty of road ahead.
