Coalition set to support Voice machinery bill despite ‘unhappiness’ in party room

Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell reveals the machinery bill setting up the Voice to Parliament referendum this week will likely get through with Coalition support, but not without some “protestations” from MPs in the party room.

Opposition leader Peter Dutton initially wanted funding for both the yes and no campaigns, but there are suggestions the Liberals will give up on this request to instead call for a committee to oversee the pamphlets for both campaigns.

“A lot of discussion and some unhappiness in the party room about caving in on funding the yes and no campaigns, but it looks like this now could get Coalition support in the Senate,” Mr Clennell said.
