Teenage driver mounts footpath in Kingsford in Sydney’s east, hitting and seriously injuring schoolboy who was pinned up against tree

A boy has been taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital in a serious condition after being struck by a car in Sydney’s east on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Gardeners Road and Bunnerong Road in Kingsford just before 4pm, following reports a 17-year-old driver had mounted the footpath and hit a schoolboy.

Police said the boy was pinned between a car and a tree for about 40 minutes, before officers from the Police Rescue Squad managed to free him.

The P-plater was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command have secured a crime scene which will be examined by specialist police.

Major traffic delays are being experienced and motorists are urged to avoid the area.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the crash, or has any available dashcam or mobile phone footage to contact Maroubra Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
