‘He is off me’: Matty Johns reveals brother Andrew won’t return his calls after he was a no-show on SEN’s Morning Glory on Friday.

Matty Johns has declared his brother Andrew is “off me” after the Knights legend was a no-show on SEN’s Morning Glory on Friday morning.

Speculation is mounting over a reported feud between the pair with his absence on the program coming after a fiery debate on State of Origin more than two weeks ago.

Matty was addressing his guests at the start of the show before welcoming Joey onto the show before a comic silence.

“And rugby league’s eighth Immortal Andrew Johns…Houston we have a problem,” he said, drawing laughter from his panel.

“It’s official – Andrew Johns, my brother is completely off me. He was coming in this morning, there was rumours that he might not come.

“I just thought the last three weeks him not returning phone calls was laziness, obviously not.”

Matty said Andrew’s absence on the show wasn’t down to State of Origin after NSW, who have Joey on the coaching staff, were downed 26-18 by Queensland in the series opener on Wednesday night.

“This morning him not coming here has nothing to do with State of Origin. I thought his comments after the game were very strong and upfront and honest. Bottom line is, he’s off me.”

The brothers had a disagreement while discussing the series on-air in mid-May when Andrew took issue with Matty’s praising of a Queensland side defending the shield in 2023.

“Put your Maroon jersey on, you should have some at home,” he said.

The 51-year-old assured listeners however that a feud between the brothers is nothing new having survived a quarrel that lasted two years.

“This is nothing new for me and Joey, we were forced to share a bedroom together for 19 years,” he said.

“We’ve had our fill of each other. Every six months we have a blue like this and it just gives each of us a break from one another.”

Andrew Johns could’ve had his feathers ruffled further if he was listening, with Queenslander and former Brisbane Broncos winger Denan Kemp eventually coming onto the show to take his vacant spot.

Matty and Andrew are both Newcastle Knights legends, winning a grand final together in 1997.

The Fox League personality played 176 games for the club from 1992-2000 while Andrew appeared in 249 matches from 1993-2007 and finished his career as one of the greatest halfbacks to play the game.
