How long is Stephen Curry out? Ankle injury timeline, return date, latest updates on Warriors star

The Warriors could be without their star player for some time.

Stephen Curry injured his ankle during Thursday’s loss to the Bulls and did not return to the game. He finished the contest with 15 points on 5-of-18 shooting.

Curry has battled injuries throughout his career, having not exceeded 69 games in a season since 2016-17. He has averaged 26.9 points, 4.9 assists and 4.4 rebounds in 2023-24 while shooting 44.9 percent from the field and 40.7 percent from 3.

The Warriors, who sit ninth in the Western Conference at 33-29, are headed into a pivotal stretch of the season. Missing their star player could be a huge blow to the team’s playoff hopes.

Here’s the latest on Curry’s injury.

Coach Steve Kerr did not have further updates on Curry’s status after the contest.

Kerr said the star guard had his foot in an ice bath when the team returned to the locker rooms.

How long is Stephen Curry out?

There was no immediate timetable placed on Curry’s return from the ankle injury. However, teammate Klay Thompson did not sound optimistic about a quick comeback.

“I know we’re going to miss him if he does need time off,” Thompson said, per ESPN. “We’ve been in this position before where he has had time off, and we just got to do it collectively. I know he’ll be ready to go when he does come back, whenever that is. We just wish him a speedy recovery.”

Should Curry miss time, Chris Paul would be the likely point guard for the team moving forward. In 38 games this season, Paul has averaged 9.0 points, 7.1 assists and 3.7 rebounds.

Draymond Green said the team is confident in Paul if he should become the starter for a prolonged period.

“We know he is more than capable. He’s Chris Paul,” Green said, per ESPN. “It’s been incredible having C here, but then you have Steph going down — no one is Steph Curry in the NBA. But knowing you are going into the game with a guy who can win you game after game after game, it definitely gives you confidence going in knowing that you are more than capable to win games.”
