Homicide squad called in after Victorian man dies in hospital weeks after violent dispute

Victoria Police are investigating after a man died in hospital following a violent incident between neighbours in Dromana on Melbourne’s Mornington Peninsula last month.

Emergency services were called to an address at Palmerston Avenue shortly after 8.50pm on 31 January following reports of a neighbourhood dispute.

It is understood two groups from adjacent properties were involved in a physical altercation after a 37-year-old Hastings man drove his vehicle at residents of the other property then assaulted them.

The man was subsequently restrained while residents were awaiting police, however he fell unconscious.

He was later transported to hospital and passed away on 7 February.

On Monday, Victoria Police confirmed the matter will now be investigated by the Homicide Squad following the man’s death.

A 21-year-old Dromana man was interviewed by police on the night of the incident and released pending further enquiries.

Another man and a woman who were at the property with the Dromana man suffered minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital.

Police are urging anyone with information or who witnessed the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
