2 children killed and 2 others critically injured in Staten Island house fire, NYC officials say

Two children were killed and two others were critically injured after a house fire Friday morning on Staten Island, New York City officials said.

Firefighters received a call about a blaze at about 10:18 a.m. ET and learned children were trapped on the second floor of the residence, the Fire Department of New York tweeted.

Crews encountered “heavy, advanced fire on the second floor,” department spokesperson Jim Long said.

A 5-year-old girl was pronounced dead on the scene, while a 6-year-old died at the hospital, according to the New York Police Department.

In addition to the two children in critical condition, two teenagers and one firefighter had minor injuries, the FDNY said.

It was unclear what the relationship was between the victims, but Long said authorities believe they were all from one family. Investigators do not believe any adults were home at the time of the blaze.
