The trumpets for Edwin Diaz at Citi Field officially won’t blare until 2024.
The Mets closer will not try to pitch in a game this season, according to MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo.
Diaz will continue to throw bullpen sessions through September and is expected back next season.
There was thought that Diaz, who suffered a torn patella tendon during an on-field celebration at the World Baseball Classic in March, would try to pitch in a game before the end of 2023 to get his feet wet before spring training.
But it appears he and the Mets have opted against it.
