The Match purse 2022: How much money will Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth win?

The Match returns under the bright lights of Saturday night, but this edition won’t feature any NFL quarterbacks.

Instead, four golfers, all with major championships to their name, will be competing in Belleair, Florida. Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy will battle Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas.

While McIlroy, Spieth, and Thomas are world-class golfers in their own right, Woods is the story of the event. He’s returning after pulling out of last week’s Hero World Challenge due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot and says he’s planning to use a golf cart to get around. As for hitting golf balls, Woods said this week the injury won’t impact him much at all.

Here’s a look at how much the purse is for this iteration of The Match and where the money will be going after the event.

The Match purse: How much money will be donated to charity?

While the exact amount of money raised for The Match isn’t yet known, the winnings will be going to Hurricane Ian relief efforts. Belleair is near Tampa, FL, which is just north of some of the hardest-hit areas by the storm.

In the past, editions of The Match earned $20 million for COVID-19 relief efforts and $4.4 million for Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

The most recent edition of The Match, in June, allowed participants to earn money for charities with various competitions. For example, a shot within five feet of the hole on certain areas of the course awarded $350,000. With no quarterbacks on the green this time, similar competitions might produce even more money.

How much will the winner make?

The Match has taken on a much different approach than the 2018 edition, which saw Phil Mickelson walk away with a whopping $9 million prize after beating Woods.

Since the money will go toward Hurricane Ian relief efforts this time around, the winning duo will only walk away with bragging rights, along with the good feeling that comes with helping out those in need.

Past iterations of the Match have benefited several charities, including COVID-19 relief efforts and groups aimed at ending hunger.

The exact amount of money that will be earned for Hurricane Ian relief efforts isn’t yet known.

Tiger Woods net worth

Woods’ net worth is estimated at roughly $800 million, though estimates vary.

Woods is one of the highest-earning athletes ever, with about $1.7 billion in career earnings as of April 2022. Most of his earnings came through endorsement and sponsorship deals, which continue to make him one of America’s highest-paid athletes even in the later years of his career as a golfer.

Rory McIlroy net worth

McIlroy’s net worth is estimated to be roughly $170 million.

Woods is one of the highest-earning golfers ever across the board, winning nearly $70 million on the course alone, but his total net worth is dwarfed by Woods’ lucrative sponsorships and endorsement deals.

Of course, $170 million isn’t something to laugh at, either. While close calls in majors have become a storyline of McIlroy’s career, he still earns plenty of prize money from those high finishes in major events.
