When is the next Hopman Cup tournament?

The next edition of the Hopman Cup is scheduled for July 19-23, 2023.

Six teams will take part in the tournament in the 2023 and 2024 events, with the competition to expand to eight teams from 2025 onwards.

Whilst the Hopman Cup hasn’t taken place for a number of years, the rules will remain the same as the last edition in 2019.

Each team will include one male and one female player, with ties between nations made up of one men’s singles match, one women’s singles match, and a mixed doubles match.

What is the Hopman Cup 2023 host city?

Nice has been announced as the next host of the Hopman Cup.

Located in the south of France, the Riviera-based city has secured a deal that will see it host the tournament until 2027.

The Nice Lawn Tennis Club will stage the event for the next five years, with the 2023 Hopman Cup marking the first time the event has been held outside of Perth, Australia.

As the new hosts, France will automatically field a team each year.

Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, is excited to add the event to the city’s sporting calendar.

“Tennis is a major sport in Nice, a discipline that has a strong history, with a club that is more than a hundred years old,” Estrosi said.

“After the Grand Depart of the Tour de France in 2020, the Top 14 semi-finals in 2022, the Hopman Cup will precede the Rugby World Cup by a few weeks, and then [we will have] the arrival of the Tour de France in July 2024.”

Why did Perth, Australia lose the Hopman Cup hosting rights?

The Hopman Cup’s shift to Nice is a major shake-up, with Perth hosting the tournament for the 30 years following the tournament’s inception.

Founded in 1989, the event was traditionally held in the opening week of the international tennis season.

However, in 2019, the Western Australia state government cut its contract with Tennis Australia and the International Tennis Federation short by three years to instead host the now-defunct ATP Cup (which has since been replaced by the United Cup).

How to watch the Hopman Cup

Broadcast details for the upcoming Hopman Cup have not been announced yet.

In the meantime, fans can re-watch highlights via the tournament’s YouTube channel.

Who won the last edition of the Hopman Cup?

The last installment of the Hopman Cup took place in 2019 in Perth, Australia.

Switzerland – represented by Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic – took out the tournament.

The Swiss duo got the better of their German opponents Alexander Zverev and Angelique Kerber in the doubles match to win the final 2-1.
