Jamie Foxx returns to ‘Beat Shazam’ after mysterious medical complication forced him to exit last year
Jamie Foxx made a miraculous recovery after suffering a major health scare in 2023 that forced him to largely leave the public eye. But the Oscar-winning actor is officially making his comeback to host Beat Shazam, which he exited ahead of Season 6 following his mysterious medical emergency.
Foxx will be returning as host and executive producer of Beat Shazam, the FOX series created in association with the song identification app. He will also be joined by his daughter Corinne Foxx, who is a DJ on the show.
“Jamie and Corinne are the heart and soul of Beat Shazam,” Allison Wallach, FOX Entertainment’s President of Unscripted Entertainment, said in a release. “As our undeniably dynamic father-daughter hosting team, they bring a relationship like no other to a show like no other, and it’s wonderful having them back on set this season.”
After his sudden departure in 2023, Foxx and his daughter were replaced by Nick Cannon and Kelly Osbourne, respectively.
Foxx was hospitalized after experiencing an undisclosed “medical emergency” on April 11, according to a statement from his daughter. The nature of his condition has not been publicized, though Foxx has hinted at the severity of it.
The actor received a standing ovation when he made his first public appearance in December 2023 to accept the Vanguard Award.
“You know, it’s crazy, I couldn’t do that six months ago — I couldn’t actually walk,” Foxx said after he took the stage, before adding with a laugh, “I’m not a clone, I’m not a clone. I know a lot of people who was saying I was cloned out there.”
He continued, “I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy, because it’s tough.”
Prior to that, Foxx had taken to sharing optimistic updates with his fans on social media without revealing the actual cause behind his medical scare. His silence spurred a number of rumors regarding his condition.
“I know a lot of people were waiting or wanting to hear updates but to be honest with you, I just didn’t want you to see me like that, man,” he told fans in an update shared in July 2023.
The actor maintained that he was ready to get back to work.
“As you can see, the eyes are working, the eyes are working just fine. I’m not paralyzed, but I went to hell and back, and my road to recovery had some potholes as well. But I’m coming back and I’m able to work,” he said.
Beat Shazam Season 7 premieres on FOX May 28 at 8 pm ET.
